Ken (Dad) said very little about VP-71's journey to Pearl Harbor in December 1941. Most of this story was written using input from Dolores (Mom) and other family members, as well as significant research. The supporting articles (in the middle of the page) are referenced throughout the Story, and provide more history or current news. The two War Diaries (from the National Archives) and the War History (from the Washington DC Navy Yard Library), at the bottom of this page, describe the same efforts as VP-71 by many squadrons and men who were fighting in the Battle of the Atlantic. They were also ordered to Pearl Harbor immediately after the attacks, with some detachments taking alternate dates and routes to Pearl Harbor.
